Gowi Odera organized a peaceful street demonstration to protest the recent move by Kenyan MPs to increase their salary – a move that has been met with condemnation from many corners. We talked to Gowi and some of the protestors who turned up. What do YOU think? Is there anything you feel strongly enough to take to the streets for?
Here’s Issue 5 of “Soma Hiyo Something” – concerning the Conduct of State Officers. For the longest time, it’s been very easy to be a civil servant who runs a business that supplies the Government at exorbitant prices – because you’re the one who approves the tenders yourself.
It’s also very easy to have a whole other day job while still in the pay of the Government – meaning you only turn up for work on pay day. Chapter Six of the Draft Constitution (Articles 75 – 78, specifically) deal with this and other aspects of leadership and integrity. Someone in our comic isn’t too happy to hear that.
